CATS Work Through Rain, July 12, 2018, City of Loveland Natural Area

I need a weather watcher for the project areas. At 230pm it was raining cats and dogs with 27mph winds at my house which is only about 3 miles from the worksite. I decided to wait it out by watching the National Geographic channel about Argentina. About 330 or so I get a call from Scott – “Where are you?” “ I am at home – why?” “We are all here waiting for you”. What?  There was no rain over there. Obviously, I was late but the gang started to show up and we turned a rain event into a work event. More of the same trail building and sadly watching the lake draw up. We are at the half way point and it is full steam ahead! We just got to keep going on strong to get this baby done and out of the sun. Lots of good conversations as we work and jump frog over each other. Then the night comes and we are tired and retire to the Wapiti for food and a drink.

THORNS:
ü Get Bob off couch and to the worksite – forget the rain storm
ü Weird weather zones in Loveland
ü Found active wasp nest in side mirror on passenger side

BUDS:  Mango Chicken salad at Qdboas is all I can think about lately and their salad is going away this Friday. I consume a whole bowl of this stuff. What does this have to do with CATS? Nothing. Just like 10 times zero is still nothing. Why am I down on myself – cause I missed being on time. It may not be important to some – but has been part of me for a long time especially being in the military and if you are not fifteen minutes early – you are late. Getting a call was great and reminded me that we live in a diverse area with several weather zones. For now on, we have a weather monitor person that can make the calls from the work area (at least for this project). We have had this problem several years back when Denny thought the whack was rained out because it was raining cats/dogs at his house – but over at Lory – it was sunny and fine. We just recently made an adjustment to our work schedule – by decreeing anything over 90°F at 3 pm is a no go and we push the time back to 4 pm. We have to look out for our members in all kinds of ways. Safety is paramount and especially their health…Working in this kind of heat is miserable. Our CATS members do the work regardless but it is foolish to push the window too much. The trail flags are still there every week and we get to them when we can and work the trail in comfort.

On the trail,
Bob Johnson
